Char Dham Uttarakhand is a series of temples above 10,000 feet in the Himalayas, holding immense spiritual values that are collectively known as the Char Dham Uttarakhand. 

Char Dham Uttarakhand, a Yatra, a pilgrimage to the holy shrines of Shri Badrinath Dham, Shri Kedarnath Dham, Shri Gangotri Dham, and Shri Yamunotri Dham.

Badrinath Dham is situated on the bank of the river Alaknanda in Chamoli district, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Badrinath stands for Badri ke Nath. Badrinath Dham is also considered to be the Baikunth Dham.

Located in Badrinath town, Uttarakhand. The temple has a presence in ancient Hindu scriptures, estimated to date around 1750-500 B.C.E.

Shri KEDARNATH temple is one of the well-known and is among the most spiritual ones, The temple is dedicated to LORD SHIVA. Temple is situated in the valley of Mount Kedarnath and Mount Trishul on the banks of rivers Mandakini, Dhauli Ganga, and Doodh Ganga.. etc… In Rudraprayag District Uttarakhand. Shri Kedarnath has survived the burial under the snow for hundreds of years throughout the mini-ice age. The well-known temple is believed to be built by the sage Shankaracharya and the tales of the Shivalinga are connected to the Pandavas of the Dwapar Y.ug

3. Shri Gangotri

Shri Gangotri Dham is situated on the bank of the river Bhagirathi in Uttarkashi District. The temple is dedicated to Mata Ganga. According to Hindu mythology, there was a king named Bhagirath who did an intense austerity( Tapasya ) and pleased Goddess Ganga to come to earth to help people to atone for their sins and to get “Moksha.”

This is why the river Ganga is worshipped across the Nation. The River Bhagirathi originates from the Gangotri glacier. Gangotri trek offers a world-famous trek of Gaumukh and Tapovan, attracting tons of tourists and climbers.

4. Shri Yamunotri Dham

Shri Yamunotri Dham, or sometimes called Jamunotri Dham, is situated in the valley of Swargarohini and Bandarpoochh mountain range on the bank of the river Yamunotri/Jamunotri in Uttarkashi District in Uttarakhand. Yamunotri River originates from Yamunotri glacier, which is also reachable after an easy trek of 1 km.  The temple is dedicated to Mata Yamuna/Jamuna.

Char Dham Uttarakhand Location

Char Dham Uttarakhand is located in the northern region. If we see them from Shri Badrinath Dham to Shri Yamunotri Dham, then Shri Badrinath Dham is the eastern temple than Shri Kedarnath Dham is west of Shri Badri Vishal, and Shri Gangotri Dham is west of Shri Kedarnath Dham. Shri Yamunotri Dham is the westernmost temple.

Who Established the Char Dham Uttarakhand

Adi Guru Shankaracharya established the Char Dham Uttarakhand in the 9th century.

Uttarakhand is known for its scenic beauty and is often referred to as the “Land of the Gods” due to its numerous Hindu pilgrimage sites and temples. The state is situated in the Himalayan region, and it is home to several famous hill stations such as Mussoorie, Nainital, Almora, and Ranikhet.

 

The state is blessed with abundant natural resources and is known for its rich biodiversity.
